The Truth

To live fully is to live in acquiescence to the truth and in the light of reason. Anything less is a half life, one captivated by the shadows of delusion. Unfortunately, the truth is known to us only in part, as though through a glass, darkly. How then are we to proceed when confronted with this treacherous and uncertain ground? We proceed slowly, carefully feeling our way forward. Do not displace tradition until confident in your knowledge of the truth, and even then do so with trepidation of consequences unknown. Tradition must give way to the truth alone. But we should never cherish tradition. Rather, it should be seen for what it is. A crutch, a poorly crafted substitute for what it is we actually yearn for. We must be both eager and fearful to dispense with it.
